Privacy Policy for Runs
Effective date: June 8, 2026
Last updated: June 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Runs ("the app," "we," "us") collects, uses, and handles information when you use the Runs iOS application ("Service").
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Display name — a nickname you enter during onboarding. This is displayed when you check in at a court or invite others to a run.
- Court submissions — court name, address, neighborhood, description, and optional photos you submit through the "Add a court" feature.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Anonymous user ID — when you first open the app, Firebase Authentication assigns you a random anonymous identifier. This ID is never linked to your email address, phone number, or any other personal account.
- Check-in data — when you tap "I'm running here," we record the anonymous user ID, court name, and timestamp in Firestore. This data powers the live activity indicators other users see.
- Game runs — if you create or join a scheduled run, we store the court name, date/time, participant list (by display name and anonymous ID), and any notes.
- Subscription status — RevenueCat manages in-app purchase state on our behalf. We receive whether your subscription entitlement is active; we do not receive your payment card details.
1.3 Location
- The app requests "While Using the App" location permission to center the map on your position and sort nearby courts.
- Your precise location is never sent to our servers. It is used only on-device for the map display. It is not stored, logged, or shared.
1.4 Photos
- If you submit a new court, you may optionally attach photos from your library or camera. These photos are uploaded to Firebase Storage associated with the submission, not with your identity.

3. Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
4. Data Retention
- Check-in records are retained for 30 days, then expire automatically.
- Game runs are retained as long as they have status "active." Expired or cancelled runs are not deleted immediately but are filtered out of all queries.
- Court submissions are retained indefinitely for moderation and potential addition to the directory.
- Anonymous user accounts persist until you uninstall the app or delete your account (see Section 5).
5. Your Rights & Choices
- Display name — you can change your display name at any time from the Profile tab (tap the pencil icon next to your name).
- Delete your data — you can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly in the app: open the Profile tab, scroll to Account, and tap Delete account. This immediately removes your anonymous user ID and all associated check-ins, runs, reviews, submissions, and follows. You may also email us at the address below to request deletion; we will process emailed requests within 30 days.
- Location — you can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings → Runs. The app remains functional without location; courts will not be sorted by distance.
- Push notifications — you can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Runs.
6. Children's Privacy
Runs is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
